Aptera Motors revealed solar electric vehicle at CES 2025
California-based Aptera Motors has unveiled its production-ready solar electric vehicle during this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.
The futuristic-looking solar electric vehicle (sEV) aims to deliver ‘unmatched energy efficiency’ that ‘requires no charging for most daily use’.
Sounds too good to be true, right?
But Aptera Motors says its breakthrough solar technology offers around 64km (40 miles) of driving per day, entirely powered by sunlight.

Aptera Motors solar electric vehicle could be a real game changer
With more and more folks turning towards EVs for a myriad of reasons – from saving money to saving the planet – a solar-powered vehicle could prove to be a huge hit.
However, until now we’ve not seen many real attempts at a solar-powered car – other than the occasional DIY version, of course.
But Aptera Motors looks set to change all that with its production-ready three-wheel sEV.
The vehicle completed testing back in November and debuted at CES 2025 this week.
The company says its sEV ‘combines cutting-edge engineering with extraordinary capabilities’.
The car promises up to 400 miles or range from a single charge in under an hour, alongside that, you’ll get ‘up to 40 miles of free driving per day powered by sunlight’.
Aptera Motors says this adds up to ‘over 10,000 miles per year of solar-powered driving in sunny climates, significantly reducing reliance on grid charging’.
Clever stuff.
Reservations have already been flooding in for the sEV
The unique-looking vehicle has four solar panels – placed on the hood, dash, roof, and hatch – and is made from a carbon fiber sheet molding compound.
The lightweight material means that the sEV requires fewer than a tenth the part of a traditional vehicle.
“Today marks a pivotal moment not only for Aptera but for the future of sustainable transportation,” Aptera Motors Co-CEO, Chris Anthony said in a statement.
“This vehicle embodies years of innovation and relentless pursuit of energy-efficient mobility. CES is the perfect stage to share our vision and invite the world to join us in creating a cleaner solar-powered future.”
As yet, Aptera Motors hasn’t revealed when the cars will be rolling out, but says it has had almost 50,000 reservations so far.
